A New Name for your new dog

Have you recently adopted a new dog and aren’t crazy about his name.   It’s easy for a dog to learn a new name. This method also works for new puppies to learn their name.

Learning their name is very important.   It gives you the tool to say “Hey, I’m talking to you”.

Start with a handful of tiny soft treats that your dog can eat in one bite. Say your dog’s new name and immediately follow it with popping a treat in his mouth. Do this about 10 times.   It doesn’t matter if the dog is sitting, lying down or even looking at you.   After the 10 times, say his name and as soon as he looks at you, give the treat. Practice this several times a day in several different places and soon your dog will be looking at you every time you say his name.

Helpful hint: Never use your dog’s name as a punisher. SPOT NOOOOO!!!!!!.   You want your dog’s name to mean good things, not you’re in trouble mister.
